A visit to the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela is the highlight of any visit to Ethiopia. The 12th century churches are the legacy of king Lalibela. It is said his visit to Jerusalem inspired him to build these truly amazing places of worship.
We meet you early morning at your hotel for the transfer to the airport. A short flight takes us to the airport of Lalibela where our transfer is waiting for a 45 minutes drive to town. Here we check-in in our hotel and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon our local guide is waiting for us and we start with our exploration of Lalibela.
At our second day in Lalibela we need about half a day to visit the remaining churches in the village. There are quite a few options to spent the rest of our time. For example a visit to the Yemrehane Kristos church or a hike to the Asheton Maryam church. On Saturday there is the weekly market in town.
(it is possible to add additional days to explore more of Lalibela and the surrounding area, excellent hiking opportunities are available)
After breakfast the transfer is ready to take us to the airport. Arrival in Addis Ababa depends on available flights, late morning or early afternoon. A transfer is waiting us to bring you back to your hotel.
