How to choose your itinerary?
All our tours are tailor-made based on your requirements and we put all our expertise into every itinerary we design, be it for one day or for four weeks. The more information you give us the better we can suggest you an itinerary and give a quote for a unique, tailor-made visit to beautiful Ethiopia. To give you inspiration on what is possible we publish here some suggested itineraries that can help you to decide how to spend your valuable time in Ethiopia. Our suggested itineraries are designed to show you as much as possible in the time available without being overloaded. Not only visiting the highlights but leaving time to explore in between. We included some highlight-only itineraries but Ethiopia deserves more. On the other hand, if you really want to travel slowly you might want to add an extra day here and there.
On our destinations pages, you will find plenty of inspiration to amend or extend our suggested itineraries. Almost all our suggested itineraries start and finish in Addis Ababa, thus making it easy to combine for example a tour to the north with a tour to the south. This way you can make your own ‘best of Ethiopia’ tour of which we have published one example.
Travel slow
When you are working out your own itinerary try not to overload your program. Don’t rush from highlight to highlight. Ethiopia is a huge country and it takes time to get around. Leave time available to get out of the car, walk around and get a better feeling of what Ethiopia is all about. Take time to digest. Of course, you want to see everything but consider leaving a destination out of your itinerary to enjoy the remaining so much more.
What (not) to leave out an itinerary for Ethiopia?
If you are on a tight schedule you might want to leave Axum and Tigray out of an itinerary to the north. It’s a fascinating area and the roads leading there are of extraordinary beauty. But it is time-consuming and if choices have to be made…..
For the south, we wouldn’t recommend leaving Turmi out of your itinerary. We prefer a visit to the hospitable Hamar people over a visit to the Mursi people, although the latter are probably more famous. Again, this is if choices have to be made.
Other considerations for the perfect Ethiopian itinerary.
We have a nice selection of accommodation available which suits most travelers. Where available we like to use the beautiful lodges as our first choice. To adjust our selection with your preferences/ budget we distinguish different categories from which you can choose.
Depending on available time, budget, and how many you are we suggest the best way of transport for your tour.
Consider taking a professional guide along.
